Endoscopy
At Doylestown Animal Medical Clinic, we offer minimally invasive endoscopic procedures to help diagnose and evaluate a variety of conditions affecting dogs and cats. Endoscopy allows our veterinary team to examine areas that can be difficult to evaluate with traditional diagnostic methods, often without the need for more invasive surgery.
Using a small camera attached to a specialized instrument, our veterinary team can visualize internal structures, identify abnormalities, collect tissue samples when appropriate, and, in certain cases, retrieve foreign objects.
When Is Endoscopy Recommended?
Endoscopy may be recommended when your pet is experiencing symptoms that require a closer look or when additional diagnostic information is needed. Depending on your pet’s symptoms and medical history, endoscopy may be used to investigate:
- Chronic or recurring vomiting
- Difficulty swallowing
- Chronic coughing or respiratory concerns
- Persistent nasal discharge or sneezing
- Gastrointestinal abnormalities
- Suspected foreign objects
- Inflammation or abnormal tissue
- Unexplained gastrointestinal or respiratory symptoms
What to Expect
Endoscopic procedures are performed under anesthesia to keep your pet comfortable and allow our veterinary team to safely and thoroughly examine the area of concern.
A small camera provides a magnified view of internal structures, allowing our veterinary team to identify abnormalities that may not be visible through routine examination or imaging. Depending on the procedure, samples may also be collected for further evaluation.
Because endoscopy is minimally invasive, recovery may be easier than with traditional surgical procedures in appropriate cases. However, the specific recovery process will depend on the type of procedure performed and your pet’s individual condition.
Otoscopy
Otoscopy is the examination of the ear canal and eardrum using a specialized instrument with a light and magnification.
For pets with chronic or recurring ear problems, an otoscopic examination allows our veterinary team to take a closer look inside the ear canal and evaluate areas that may be difficult to see during a routine examination.
Otoscopy may be used to help identify:
- Ear inflammation or infection
- Foreign objects
- Excessive wax or debris
- Abnormal tissue or growths
- Changes or damage to the eardrum
- Other abnormalities within the ear canal
Rhinoscopy
Rhinoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that allows our veterinary team to examine the inside of your pet’s nasal passages using a small camera.
Rhinoscopy may be recommended for pets experiencing persistent or unexplained nasal symptoms, particularly when a routine examination or other diagnostic testing has not identified the cause.
Rhinoscopy can help evaluate for:
- Foreign objects
- Inflammation or infection
- Abnormal tissue
- Polyps or growths
- Nasal bleeding
- Other abnormalities within the nasal passages
During the procedure, our veterinary team can closely examine the nasal passages and, when appropriate, collect tissue or other samples for further evaluation.
